Stan Drake

Stanley Albert Drake (born in Brooklyn, NY, November 9, 1921 – March 10, 1997) was an American cartoonist best known as the founding artist of the comic strip The Heart of Juliet Jones. At age 17, Drake entered the comic book field as an artist, letterer and writer, he became friends with cartoonist Bob Lubbers, who later suggested he draw newspaper comics. Serving in the Pacific during World War II, Drake returned to civilian life to head a 12 man studio of illustrators for an advertising agency. Besides being a prolific painter, painting portraits of more than 40 cartoonists, Drake was recognized by the National Cartoonists Society with their Story Comic Strip Award (1969, 1970, 1972) for The Heart of Juliet Jones.
