John  Byrne

John L. Byrne (born July 6, 1950 in Walsall, Staffordshire, England) is a Canadian and American writer and artist of super-hero comic books. Since the mid-1970s, Byrne has worked on most major superheroes, with notable work on Marvel Comics Uncanny X-Men and Fantastic Four as well as the 1986 relaunch of DC Comics Superman franchise. Byrne began co-plotting the X-Men comics during his tenure on them, and launched his writing career with Fantastic Four (where he also served as penciler and inker). During the 1990s he produced a number of creator-owned work, including Next Men and Danger Unlimited. Additionally he is the co-creator of several Marvel Comics characters including Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat, Emma Frost/White Queen, Sabretooth, Shadow King, Bishop, Omega Red, Rachel Summers, Scott Lang/Ant-Man, as well as the creator of Canada's first super-team, Alpha Flight (Vindicator, Snowbird, Shaman, Sasquatch, Northstar, Aurora, Puck, and Marrina). Notably he's received several major industry awards, including Eagle Awards, Inkpot Award, Canadian Comic Book Creator Hall of Fame, and Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame.
